Art.sy

Art.sy is a new way to discover art you'll love, featuring work from leading partners, museums, and private collections around the world.

Art.sy's mission is to make all the world's art freely accessible to anyone with an Internet connection.  Powered by the Art Genome Project, Art.sy seeks to connect users, both non-experts and experts alike, with works of art based on their expressed interests and preferences (think Pandora for music).  Users can explore works of art using different faceted techniques, browsing by subject, art-historical movement, formal qualities (like brush stroke), and more.  All the images on the site are zoomable, but not downloadable for copyright reasons (the bulk of the content on the site is currently contemporary).  Users currently include curators, researchers, faculty, students, artists, collectors, art therapists, and general art enthusiasts.

Art.sy continues to grow-- 55+ nonprofit partners now include: The British Museum, Dallas Museum of Art, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Colby College, The Royal Collection, Fondation Beyeler, Calder Foundation, David Smith Estate, Walker Art Center, and others. We are also working with artists, artists’ estates, galleries, foundations, and rights organizations, to clear permissions for works to include them on the site.

The New York Times posted an article about it here.
